Urban Roots run a broad range of projects working with local people to make a practical lasting difference to the environment. These include:
• A community gardening project, improving local spaces with herbs, flowers, fruit and vegetables.
• A market garden project, growing food to redistribute back into the community, helping to cut food miles.
• A conservation project, looking after an 8 hectare site of woodland and marshland, improving the biodiversity and public access.

We are delighted that Professor Michael Tooley has agreed to talk about
"Gertrude Jekyll: artist, gardener, craftswoman". He says of Gertrude Jekyll
(1843-1932) that she has been described as one of the greatest gardeners
that has ever lived, and more than seventy five years after her death her
ideas and practice are as fresh and relevant as they were over a hundred
