Hello, I'm one of the charge nurses of Meadows Ward, an admission ward at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital (REH). The REH has made space within it's grounds available as allotment space for use by wards, service users, staff or carers. This is not part of the Community Gardens that are commented on in the Home page of this website 6/1/10, but is probably linked in some way to the desire to make better use of our extensive grounds.
I am hoping that, and perhaps in the spirit of allotment gardening, that people may have spare equipment that they would like to donate to Meadows Ward for use on our plot. We would be happy to receive anything from Garden Sheds to Wellies. Wellies because who comes in to hospital kitted out with wellies(?!), so we would be happy to have an assortment of sizes available. I wonder if anyone might have a bench because I think sometimes it's as much about quietly watching things grow as the physical exertion of cultivation?
This is a new project at the REH and we are one of many wards who have high hopes for the practical + therapeutic benefits that the plots will offer us in the coming months.
We are, of course, happy to pick any equipmet up within Edinburgh and the immediate surrounding area.
Many Thanks
Jamie Martin
