AS OUR CASH STRAPPED EDINBURGH COUNCIL IS FINDING WAYS TO SAVE CASH BY CLOSING FOUR COMMUNITY CENTRES WHY HAVE THEY
NOT !! INCREASED THE PITTANCE OF A RENT ON SOME OF THEIR ALLOTMENTS NAMELY GREENDYKES IN CRAIGMILLAR WHERE THE ANNUAL RENT IS ONLY £10 FOR THEIR PLOT OF COUNCIL LAND,
low cost rent
brian.shields the reason that the council have not put up the prices of the plots at greendykes house is because the council do not run the plots. The plots are on council land and it is a community project run by the people who work in the area or live in the community. thinking of a plot and you live in the greater craigmillar area get intouch with brian.shields@edinburgh.gov.uk yes it is only £10:00 per year
the money collected from plot holders goes towards liability insurance
and subscriptions any money left over will be invested to buy seeds
or other materials
hope to hear from you soon
Brian
low rent
andy mackie says bullshit as the council block manager has the final say on the running of the allotments not!! the plotholders themselves.
LOW PLOT RENT
£10? Pull the other one.
A standard Edinburgh plot rental is currently £60 - double what it was 5 years ago!
Low Plot Rent
Today I received notice of rent increase to £70.
It said that the increase in rents was to support the aspiration of providing more plots on new sites. It went on "However, they acknowledge that much larger additional sums of capital will be required for the creation of new sites."
I put the notice through an internet translator. It said "For all your good intentions about raising plot rents to fund new sites, with the present economic climate, you havn't got a chance, and your rent increases will be swallowed up in general running costs."!
Well, tell us something we didn't know!
