2020 Covid-19 Memories

Frances Wright, Saughton Mains
I live a few miles from my allotment which meant that during the covid 19 restrictions I was cycling (on my e bike) there to avoid a 2 bus journey.

To say that I was pleased we were allowed to continue visiting our allotments during lockdown is a massive understatement. It was an essential part of my routine then to try for at least 2 visits a week weather permitting, where I checked in on the birds/wildlife/plants + humans there. Wonderful.😄  I had a bumble bee colony in my bird box (1st time as usually bluetits) which were amazing to watch. They also visited the flowers+ shrubs in my allotment.

I have a small pond recently filled +although no frogs -it was lovely to watch small birds using it as a bird bath /watering hole , perching on a water plant tray in the pond 🐦!

Another joy was watching my wildflower bed grow + be visited by many insects as well as bees.(see photo) + being given tatties/raspberries/ courgettes by an allotment friend. (I made some Cranachan with some of the raspberries for the 1st time) 😊

I also had the pleasure of visiting a friend's allotment on another site. We sat outside with a flask of tea +cake +thought how lucky we were to be able to have these special places to visit.

I have had my allotment for a long time from the days when I lived in a top floor flat in town. And although I now have a back +front garden at home , my allotment means even more to me now as it has been a place of complete solace + relaxation during the past few stressful months. (I'm also a wee bit fitter after all the cycle trips) 😉!
